Green Materials Used in Building Construction

Building construction material is basically material used for constructing a building. Most of the time, this material will be either steel or lumber with other materials to be used depending on the structure and size of the building. Most naturally occurring building material, like stones, clay, wood and twigs, were used to build early structures. However, aside from naturally occurring building materials, most man made products are now in wide use, some synthetic and some not.

Types of Building Materials Used in Construction

One type of building material that has greatly grown in popularity over the years are precast concrete slabs. These slabs are pre-manufactured cubes that are cast in one piece and are then placed on site. In comparison to traditional slab building methods, the time frame to complete precast concrete slabs is significantly shorter and less expensive tam nhua mica. In addition, it is available in a wide range of colors, allowing the builder to match the appearance of the home’s siding or trim exactly.

Recycled plastic is becoming another popular green building material. In recent years, more architects, engineers and designers have recognized the benefits of recycling plastic waste. A popular option for recycled plastic is polystyrene foam, which is an extremely lightweight building material that is made from shredded plastic. It is also relatively easy to manufacture, requiring only standard cement manufacturing equipment.

One more building material that is becoming increasingly popular for green homes and buildings is insulated concrete form. Insulated concrete forms are formed from poured concrete and are comprised of Styrofoam panels that are then covered with either gravel or stone chips. Unlike traditional concrete, insulation provides additional warmth within the building, while eliminating the need for outdoor temperatures to constantly rise. This prevents the need to keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. During the hot months, the concrete becomes cooler, absorbing the heat from the sun instead of letting it escape. In the cold months, the concrete will retain the heat from the sun, which means that the house will remain warmer than without any type of insulation.

As more attention is focused on reducing energy consumption, energy efficiency has become an ever more important part of building construction materials. The use of recycled and new building materials that are more efficient at providing insulation should play a large part in the future. For example, the use of rigid foam has been shown to significantly reduce energy consumption in structures that feature insulation. Rigid foam was originally developed as a fire barrier, but it was found to be equally effective in keeping heat out of steel structures. In recent studies, it was found that buildings with a higher amount of rigid foam were significantly less likely to experience roof leaks, which require massive amounts of maintenance.
